When was the last time you took time to connect with someone face to face?

In a world driven by technological advancements and digital connection, I’m left wondering – are we losing the art of connecting with each other?

Having grown up in an era where connection was fuelled by letters, phone calls or face to face contact, life somehow seemed simpler and less complicated. Family visits, coffee with my beloved grandma, sleepovers, conversations with friends, visiting neighbours, storytelling – all played a critical role in fuelling human connection.

It’s funny how our experiences shape us. Perhaps it’s no accident that I should find my life’s work centred around connection: connecting people to what they love and each other. Our need for human connection is primal, we are hardwired for connection, and so I invite you to take a moment to reflect – when was the last time you really connected with someone? I’m not talking about liking a post or making a comment on Linkedin or Facebook, I’m talking about connecting with someone face to face, where you take the time to listen with curiosity and wonderment.

In my work as a coach, I am constantly amazed by the transformative power of being present for another human being. In a world primed for speed, efficiency and getting things done are we overlooking a vital element that fuels effectiveness, wellbeing, relationships, and our sense of fulfilment?

Our ability to connect with one another, this is what makes us human; our capacity to show up with compassion, empathy, and love.

So, with that in mind, I invite you to reach out to someone, whether it’s by phone, over zoom or face to face – it’s time to activate the the transformative power of (re)connection.
